Description: This letter from Soviet Chief Military Advisor Lieutenant-General M. F. Tikhonov to Hungarian Minister of Defense István Bata contains information on the bilateral operational command staff exercise (24 June - 6 July 1956) that was to be carried out on the territory of the Carpathian Military District - Shepetovka - Mogilev - Podolsk - Kiev. Participation in the field exercise, involving communications equipment, was expected of commanders, chiefs of staff, and the higher-ranking officers of major ground and air defense units of the Soviet, Romanian, and Hungarian armies.
