Coordination of Civil Defense in the Warsaw Pact Countries (Summary)

Description: This summary presents the main points of a report delivered by the head of Soviet Civil Defense, Aleksandr Altunin, on the coordination of civil defense among the Warsaw Pact (WP) countries. It was presented during the seventh session of the WP Committee of Defense Ministers (CDM) in Moscow in 1975. Altunin addresses the role and tasks of civil defense, the present state of cooperation among the WP countries, and possibilities for further improvement of cooperation. The protection of the civil population and of the economy are the main objectives of civil defense.
