Letter from US Delegation Circulating a Revised Outline on Future Defense Policy

Description: In this letter, the deputy secretary of the US delegation, James N. May, offers a revised outline of the study on future defense policy prepared by the rapporteur for use in the meeting of Sub-Group 3 on 18 May 1967. Structured into three parts, the study discusses the political-military situation in the Warsaw Pact and NATO countries at the time as well as the relationship between NATO defense policies and programs and the broader political objectives of the alliance, and draws conclusions about the short- and long-term defense tasks of the alliance.
