Soviet Explanation of the Warsaw Pact's New Military Doctrine at the Chiefs of Staff Meeting in Moscow

18 May 1987
Description: These documents comprise two summaries of speeches given by Soviet Minister of Defense Sergei Sokolov and Soviet Chief of Staff Sergei Akhromeev addressing the new military doctrine of the Warsaw Pact (WP). The speeches were given at the meeting of the WP chiefs of staff. Sokolov and Akhromeev explain Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev's shift in military strategy from offense to defense. Both Soviet marshals also argue that the WP countries wish to maintain the balance of power and will not permit NATO to achieve military superiority.
