Description: This is the transcript of a speech given by East German head of state Erich Honecker at the 1989 Political Consultative Committee (PCC) meeting in Bucharest. His remarks concentrate on conventional and nuclear weapons disarmament. He also outlines the implications of political and economic cooperation with Western Europe, and assesses the relationship betwen East Germany and West Germany. In the light of perestroika in the Warsaw Pact countries, he pleads for the strengthening of Socialism.
