The Buria Exercise: Recollections of Polish General Tadeusz Pióro

28 Sep 1963
Description: This is an excerpt from a memoir by General Tadeusz Pióro. He describes a 1963 Warsaw Pact (WP) exercise near Berlin that simulated an advance into Western Europe. It was envisaged that the Warsaw Pact forces would conquer all of France, with nuclear missiles clearing the path for the WP's armored divisions.
