The Operational Plan of the Czechoslovak People's Army for the War Phase of 1964 - Was it a Real Operational Plan?

May 2003
Description: This comment by Peter Veleff and Hans Werner Deim questions the authenticity of the Czechoslovak War Plan 1964 as the real operational plan of the Czechoslovak People's Army (ČSLA) for the year 1964. Veleff and Deim argue that the document lacks essential elements of a genuine operational plan. They further point out that the ČSLA did not possess the military potential to achieve the planned territorial advances within eight days. Accordingly, Veleff and Deim describe the operations envisaged in the document as unrealistic. Finally, they claim that the content, designation, and methodology of the War Plan 1964 do not correspond to the practices of the Soviet and Czechoslovak General Staff.
